Music festivals - Romania - Part 2

  Hello travellers!

Hope you have enjoyed dancing in the sand while hearing the waves crashing in our previous festival experience. If you did not get the change to, click here to read the article about the “Island of Dreams” – Neversea. After recharging our batteries it’s time to make the next stop to the first and the biggest music festival in Romania:

 Untold

Today’s star is as well an EDM music festival which takes place for 4 days each year, around the first weekend of August in the heart of Cluj – a city located in Transilvania, Romania (the home of Dracula). It is organised by the same company as Neversea. We can say that Untold is like a little city – as it takes place in the Central Park of Cluj, the Cluj stadium and some other buildings in the city. The fact that almost everything can be found in the park, reinforces the idea of a hidden forest and makes you completely forget that you are actually in a city.

Untold offers a range of stages for different genres – from commercial, EDM, to trap, Drum n Bass – each designed in order to get you into the right atmosphere. Let’s go through some of those:

Untold Main Stage: Here is where the most known live acts happen. The stage is placed inside Cluj Arena and offers you the possibility either to stand up with the whole crowd in front of the performer, or to get a nicer overall picture and sit down on the stadium chairs. Over the years, on this stage have performed names like Robbie Williams, Armin van Buuren, Bastille, Steve Aoki, Avicii, James Arthur, Tiesto, Martin Garrix, Lost Frequencies, Jason Derulo, David Guetta and more others.

Untold Galaxy Stage: Features some of the biggest names in contemporary techno and tech-house like Paul Kalkbrenner, Rudimental, Tale of Us, Boris Brejcha, Solomun, Jamie Jones and Loco Dice. This is the only stage located indoors (Polyvalent Hall), thing that leads to a full connection with the atmosphere and takes you to a totally different place.

Untold Alchemy Stage: It is brought to life by some of the coolest drum&bass, dubstep, trap and hip-hop artists worldwide such as Wilkinson, Dub FX, Chase and Status, Borgore, Pendulum, The Prodigy and others. It’s an explosion of energy and joy.

Untold Daydreaming Stage: Daydreaming is all about sharing bassy, melodic music on beautiful sunny days. It’s the perfect place for daydreamers to get lost. Through the daydreamers performing here, we can name Black Coffee, Lee Burridge, Damian Lazarus, and Bedouin.

Untold Forest Stage: Features more than 20 live acts, starting a journey from jazz to indie pop music. Sevdaliza, Tanya Stephens, Morcheeba, Akua Naru are just some of the names that delight the attendees. This stage is perfect for calmly vibing.

Untold Fortune Stage: Fortune is Untold Festival's secondary stage and concept focused on Trance Music and other genres: progressive house, melodic techno, psy, euphoric hardstyle. Here’s a short list of performers from this stage: Nikolauss, Starpicker, ATB, Marco V, and Richard Durand.

Untold Nostalgia Stage: This stage – as the name suggests – is meant to make us nostalgic about the past times through playing old but gold Romanian and international songs. Imagine hearing the songs you grew up with or fell in love with. This stage is also a good way to spend some spare time you might have between two acts that you want to see on other stages.

After taking the tour of the stages, it’s time for a little refreshing break. Let’s have a drink or grab a bite from one of the many food venues available. The range and the prices are similar to Neversea’s: both Romanian and international food and lots of soft or alcoholic drinks. If you want to find out more about what you can eat and drink, click here.

Fashion and beauty lovers are not left out – there are plenty of clothing stores of both local and international brands, as well as Untold merchandise stores, selling t-shirts, caps, flags and all kind of branded items. You can also find beauty workshops that make temporary tattoos, face make-up and paintings, and funky festival hairstyles – in case you party too late and don’t have time to properly prepare for the next festival day. The prices may vary depending on what you are looking for. But bear in mind that Cluj is a mountain area, so the temperatures might be lower at night, even if it is summer.

Within the actual pandemic context, the festival did not take place this year, but the organizers found a customer-friendly way and changed the passes from one year to anytime – having three year validity, so you can choose which year to use your ticket in, if you have already purchased one. There are several categories of tickets: day passes, full-time passes, or VIP passes. They are slightly more expensive than Neversea passes, as the festival is bigger and offers a quite different experience than the “Island of Dreams”.

Festivals create precious memories and friendships that should always be cherished. Our festival trip has come to an end. There is actually much more magic behind this event that can only truly be experienced while being there, but I will let you one of the few pieces of media that can summarize this experience best, the Untold aftermovie:
